Featured Event Vol. 173 Symposium: The Uses (and Misuses) of History in Constitutional Interpretation

The symposium, which will be held in-person and online on Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23, will explore how history is used in constitutional interpretation, often employed to support opposite conclusions regarding the same topics. The conference will respond to the themes of Professor Jack Balkin’s recent book, Memory and Authority: The Uses of History in Constitutional Interpretation. The Law Review is proud to partner with Jack Balkin (Yale University), and Kermit Rosevelt III (University of Pennsylvania), and Alexander Tsesis (Florida State University) to present this Symposium.

Conversation with Judge Guido Calabresi

Please join the University of Pennsylvania Law Review as we welcome Judge Guido Calabresi for a conversation with his former clerks–and current Penn Law professors–Karen M. Tani and Serena Mayeri.
A legal scholar and federal judge, Judge Calabresi has profoundly shaped American law through his innovative contributions to law and economics, tort law, constitutional law, and numerous other fields of study. After serving as Dean of Yale Law School, he was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in 1994, where his opinions continue to influence legal thought. This panel, to be held in G2 at 4:30 PM on March 5, 2025, honors his enduring contributions to law and his impact on future generations.
